(BEIJING, Jan. 18) -- The fourth round campaign to solicit songs for
Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will be launched on Sunday.
An initiative of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX
Olympiad (BOCOG), the campaign was dedicated to promoting the Beijing Olympic
concepts -- “Green Olympics”, “High-tech Olympics” and “People's Olympics” and
to spread the Olympic Spirit, and has been carried on for three consecutive
years since its launch in 2003.
Over the last three years, a total of 34 songs were selected as candidate
theme songs for the 2008 Olympic Games.
The fourth round campaign covers a period from January 2007 to March
2008,with the official theme song scheduled to be announced on April 30, just
100 days away from the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games.
Meanwhile, the organizing committee of the campaign introduced a TV program
named “Unchain the Olympic Melody” to Beijing Satellite Television (BTV1), in an
effort to popularize the Olympic themed music works.
International celebrities, campaign participants, professional writers and
singers, and athletes will be invited to the program to share their Olympic
stories.
Prestigious music composer and multiple international awards winner Tan Dun
was invited as chief consultant for the program while well-known TV hostess Yang
Lan, together with her partner Wang Dong, was chosen as the host. Yang was one
of the image ambassadors of Beijing in its 2008 bid.
Debuted on Jan. 5, 2007, the program is telecast every Friday at
22:00-23:00 and is rebroadcast every Saturday at 11:00-12:00.
