(BEIJING, Jan. 21) -- The fourth round campaign to solicit songs world widely for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was launched in Beijing on the evening of January 21, 2007.
The campaign, which is the final round following the previous three in the run-up to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, will last for over a year with the closing date on March 10, 2008.
Songs and compositions in seven categories are requested in addition to 30 pieces of excellent lyrics. The scope will include 25 songs for 2008 Olympic Games, 10 songs for Beijing Paralympic Games, one theme song for Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay, one theme song for Beijing 2008 Paralympic Torch Relay, one theme song for Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games Volunteer, a piece of music for award ceremony of Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and a piece of music for sports presentation of Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Meanwhile, an expert panel convened by the organizing committee of the campaign will appraise the entries as soon as they were submitted. An instinct feature of this campaign, the organizing committee introduced on Jan. 5, 2007 a TV program, “Olympic Songfest”, on Beijing Satellite Television (BTV1) to bring the excellent works to the public in the first place. The audience will have the chance to cast votes for their favorite songs through hotlines and by sending SMS. The program is telecast every Friday at 22:00-23:00 and is rebroadcast every Saturday at 11:00-12:00.
Request for each category will differ in terms of the closing date and the results will be made public following the appraisal sessions. Appraisal of the songs for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games will start in March 2008, with the final results scheduled to be announced 100 days ahead of the opening of the Games respectively.
